Repertoire example
Exercising the repertoire of (romanesque/gothic) historiated initials in medieval manuscripts could be broken down into the studie and practice of these consituent parts:
- Lettering: Lomards, calligraphy
- Ornament: typical forms of penwork and other more extensive forms of borders, embellishments etc.
- Pattern: fills for backgrounds
- Figure: stilized representations of human, animal, object, etc.
